Coolsaet & DuChene with impressive wins at Scotiabank Vancouver Half-marathon

“I was a bit disappointed to let Reid get away, and miss my PB by 20 seconds, but it was a good, hard effort and the main objective was completely achieved. I’m pleased. Now 5 more weeks in Guelph and London here we come!” Me….

Racing this weekend in Vancouver, doing a Half. Looking for a PB, it’s currently 63:36 from last year in Virgina Beach, HOT! Calling for a hight of 17 on Sunday in Van, NICE!! Last few days here in Guelph have been crazy hot, over 40 yesterday with humidity…Able to get in training I needed dispute the heat. Few things I key on when running in hot humid weather, – constantly drink water: take bottle to leave on trail when going more then 70 minutes. have glass of water if up through the night. less coffee, especially in the afternoon – slow down pace: for me it’s more beneficial to run am20k at lower pace and get another pm15k in then to run first one fast and feel too zapped for second run. – run later in the evening: if it’s a barn burner out I’ll have an early supper then run a few hours later. Did this this yesterday, nice run for being 35degrees in the afternoon. – find shady runs – And eat lots of ice cream!

Pre Monday morning workout

Kim Dawson is one of many professionals we have access to at Speed River. I personally have worked a lot with her on metal skills training, works well for me. Check out this recent article in the Guelph Mercury where she’s helping out Alex Genest. Professor coaches runners into winning state of mind “It’s all about making their minds and their bodies work as allies, not adversaries,” she said. “I give them to tools to change their perspective, to change the filters on their brain.”

Good week of workouts! Monday we did 80′

Good week of workouts! Monday we did 80′ of tempo, longest yet, and fastest yet… Then mile repeats Thursday, fastest average ever, maybe best weather ever too…Heading for 223k this week, 235 next, then  down week for Vancouver Half Marathon June 24 Reid and I will both race.

Alright, getting in decent mileage

Alright, getting in decent mileage (210k this week) and good workouts. I like when things are clicking!
Despite windy & rainy conditions this morning workout went very well. Had a few extra bodies out on Cook’s & Carter today, one of them being a cool dude from Victoria you may know, Simon Whitfield. He jumped in for part of our marathon session. The guy’s training for three sports and he probably would have had no problem finishing whole thing with us the way he was moving!… But only training for 10k, and probably has another one or two training sessions planed in the pool and on bike later today.

Shout out to fellow Speed Riverite Hilary Stellingwerff for gettin’er done in Rome yesterday, Olympic A standard in 1500m… WAY TO GO!… And not exactly feeling top notch either, read more here… what a ‘gutsy’ effort!
